Civil society and human rights organizations send a letter to President Joe Biden

To the President of the United States of America, Mr. Joe Biden,

Today, Wednesday, January 20, marks the third anniversary of the start of the Turkish aggression against the Kurdish city of Afrin in northwestern Syria.
On this day, Turkey launched its offensive on the safe Kurdish city with the help of radical Syrian factions so-called “Syrian National Army”.

We, as civil society organizations and institutions operating in many Syrian cities and regions, have monitored thousands of violations which occured by these occupying military forces against the civilians during the past three years, and many human rights reports have been issued by international organizations that have in turn documented the crimes of the Turkish army and the so-called “Syrian National Army” in the city of Afrin.

And because today is a historic day, as it coincides with your inauguration to the presidency of the United States of America, we would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the American people the election of your honour to the presidency of the great US, which that has many responsibilities and duties in leading the world and maintaining international peace and security, so long your honour have humane stances towards contemporary issues around the globe, including the Syrian war, which had started nearly ten years ago.

Therefore, we take this opportunity to ask your honour and your team in administration to continue to support the oppressed Syrian civilians, who are still suffering from the flames of the civil war in their country. We also hope that you administration will continue to pressure the Syrian regime in Damascus to accept a political solution to the crisis in accordance with Security Council Resolution 2254 in order to build a new, federal, democratic Syria, free from terrorism and tyranny for all of its national and religious components who belong to different political backgrounds.

We also look forward to ending the Turkish occupation on the occupied Kurdish cities such as Afrin, Serê Kaniyê/Ras Al-Ain and Girê Spî/Tal Abyad, so that its displaced people could return to their homes, and let their children enjoy freedom and peace like the rest of the peoples in the world, also as part of giving back to the Kurds who gave thousands of their best daughters and sons as martyrs in the battle to eradicate terrorism on behalf of the entire free world.
