Thousands of displaced people in Manbij refuse to return to their areas occupied by Turkey

There are 7,423 displaced families from the areas occupied by Turkey and its mercenaries in northern Syria in the city of Manbij. They cannot return to their homes because of the lack of security in the occupied territories and are waiting to liberate their areas so that they can return.

After the liberation of Manbij city and its countryside of mercenaries by Manbij Military Council (MMC) and the Syrian Democratic Forces(SDF) on August 15, 2016, it became a safe area for the arrival of thousands of displaced people from areas occupied by Turkey and its mercenary gangs in northern Syria and areas of fighting between the forces of the regime and mercenary gangs, these areas have seen widespread displacement: the areas of al-Shahba, such as Jrablous, Ghandoura, Bab, Tadif, Souran Abu Jabbar, al-Ra’i, Qabasin, Azaz, Siju, Akhtarin, Marae, Tal Rifat, Fafin, Tal Hasael and  Tal Eran fled the violations of the Turkish occupation and mercenaries.

The number of displaced persons in these areas is currently 7,023, and some of them have settled in Manbij, including Abu Qalqul, Sed Tishreen, Arima and neighboring villages. Some of them live in random camps around the city.

In order to take care of the needs of displaced persons and to provide for their needs, a committee called the “the Committee of Expatriate” was set up in Manbij on 7-10 2018, whose members are internally displaced persons.

And why the displaced have not yet returned to their homes, the administrator of the committee of expatriates, Abdul Hanan Hussein said, “the state of security and stability enjoyed by the city of Manbij after liberation is the reason to stay in Manbij, and the chaos and insecurity in the areas occupied by Turkey and its mercenaries.”

He added, “Turkey and its president, Erdogan, claim that they liberated northern Syria and talk about buffer zones. If the areas they entered were really safe, they would not stay in the camps to return to their homes”. Kidnappings, looting, murder, abduction of women and rape, so no one dares to return in the presence of Turkish occupation and mercenaries.

He also denounced the threats of the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries to attack Manbij and said: No one wants Turkey and its mercenaries, and we all escaped from their practices and found safety in Manbij.
