Turkey strengthens its grip on prisons in northern Syria

Turkey informed the Syrian groups who supporting them in areas occupied in northern Syria by the decision to cancelled all their courts in Aleppo, and hand over prison administration to the military police, which trained and supervised, management and financing them.

Where central prison will be adopted, and sub-prisons managed by these factions to be managed secretly outside authority of the “military police”. The decision includes the cities of Az zaz and Al Baba north of Aleppo , Jarblous city in the east as well as Afrin region and its countryside.

The prisons of military factions will continue to be allocated “to punish elements who have committed irregularities, or any fighter being detained by soldiers of regime or other factions outside the areas of Turkish control.”

The spokesman for “National Army” said that the prisoners who have been prosecuted previously, whose cases were related to misdemeanors, crimes and offenses will be transferred to prison, “military justice” until end of period of treason, while the prisoners who will not end their trial in their prisons.

Turkey is seeking to control on areas that have been occupied in northern Syria, relying on “Staff of Free Syrian Army”, an institution formed since 2013 in Turkey, but remained ineffective and through the “temporary Syrian Government” as a military – security and administrative arm.

Where Turkey has pressed armed groups loyal to them to form a national army and linked the continuation of their funding and pay salaries of their members to agree to integration, where was chosen chief of staff and defense minister includes most of former factions involved in Operation “Euphrates Shield” and “olive branch.”

Despite step, the Syrian factions continue to run dozens of secret prisons in city of Al-Ra’ai, Jarblous, Al-Bab and Afrin, arresting hundreds of civilians, torture in bad ways, carrying out field executions or blackmailing families to send pictures of detainees to their families and ask for ransom.
