Turkish gendarmerie killed 418 Syrian refugees on the border in six years

The Turkish border guards last week retrieved the bodies of nine Syrian refugees on the border between two countries who were trying to reach Turkey to escape eight-year war in Syria.

Smugglers take advantage of foggy atmosphere of smuggling refugees to Turkey and when they are discovered by gendarmes, they lose their way, causing them to die as a result of the cold, or being shot with live bullets.

The cases of “gendarme” targeting Syrian refugees trying to cross the border from Syria to escape the war in their country have been repeated and they have built a separation wall along its 911-kilometer border to prevent refugees from entering, killing and injuring civilians on an ongoing basis.

The number of refugees killed by the Turkish border guards rose to 418, according to a survey by Vdc-Nsy (78 children under the age of 18 and 45 women). The number of casualties rose to 305.
