Armed group of Jabha Al Shamiya loyal to Turkish army destroyed the torch of Newroz in Afrin center, north of Aleppo. They put the flag of Turkey and the flags of the Syrian opposition in place of the torch that symbolizes Newroz, “the Kurdish New Year”.
The armed groups that occupied Afrin had earlier changed the name of the square where the torch is located to Salah al-Din Ayoubi Square.
It is worth to mention that the armed groups upon entering Afrin on March 18, 2018 destroyed the monument of Kawa Hadad, the hero of an old Kurdish legend linked to Newroz, the Kurdish New Year, which is celebrated annually on 21 March.
