Confessions by Turkish military leaders and officers of raping women in Afrin

Date: August 31, 2018

The first investigations revealed that the head of the so-called “drug control” branch in the city of Afrin, Mahmoud Salo, had been convicted of raping several women in Afrin city, the last of which was an underage girl and a third-month pregnant woman, resulting in the abortion of her fetus.

Several other officers, including military officials Hassan Hashemi, Mohammed al-Hussein, Abdullah Khalifa, Munzer Shashu, Sawar Ashraf and others, were also involved. “Turkish officers and soldiers were also involved in rapes as well.”

The arrests coincided with the rape of a local military commander called “Abu Amsha”, a close and directly supported by Turkey for the assault and rape of members of his faction in the region where he lives.
