Statement by the Violations Documentation Center

The Violations Documentation Center expresses its deep concern over the continued detention of a large number of detainees from the Syrian Democratic Forces, security forces, as well as Kurdish civilians, in prisons التابعة للسلطة الانتقالية في دمشق، amid credible reports of torture, ill-treatment, and the imposition of harsh and inhumane detention conditions.

The Center calls on the transitional authorities in Damascus to take immediate and urgent action to release all detainees unconditionally, ensure their physical and psychological safety, and put an immediate end to all forms of torture and abuse against them.

The Center also holds the transitional authorities fully legally and morally responsible for the continued detention of these individuals and for any harm that may befall them as a result of these ongoing violations, which constitute a clear breach of international humanitarian law and human rights standards.

Furthermore, the Center calls on international human rights organizations, the international community, and all relevant actors to intensify their efforts and exert serious pressure on the transitional authorities to secure the immediate release of all detainees, and to initiate independent and transparent investigations to hold those responsible for these violations accountable.

The continuation of such practices undermines any efforts toward justice and stability and requires urgent action to end them and ensure respect for human dignity and the rule of law.
