Turkey begins settlement of Palestinian refugees in Afrin


The Syrian interim government in Gazi Entebbe opened a civil registry for Palestinian refugees in Afrin city (24 km north of Aleppo) in northern Syria.

“The Center will provide services to 1,500 Palestinian families that were settled in Afrin city, in order to alleviate the difficulties faced by them as they travel between the regions or to review them to the official and non-official circles,” Smarat agency report from Internal Control Director in General Administration of civilian Affairs  . They will document the civil status of Palestinian refugees, such as births, deaths, marriages and divorces. They will also be issued an individual registration, a family statement and all personal documents at their place of birth and current residence.

According to previous statistics of the center that between 7800 and 8000 Palestinians are now living in Afrin, they moved from the countryside of Damascus.

On January 7, a group of Palestinians announced the establishment of an association of Palestinian refugees in Azaz city (43 km north of Aleppo).

 Thousands of displaced people south of Damascus Syrian capital arrived in northern Syria, including a large number of Palestinian refugees, after military factions operating in the region reached an agreement with Russia and Syrian government forces drafted by Turkey under a deal that included the withdrawal of armed factions from Ghouta and Damascus countryside towards Afrin city , To allow Turkey to launch a military campaign against people’s protection units in Afrin, which led to killing and injury of no less than 1500 civilians, in addition to displacement of most of population in city Afrin and exceeded 350 thousand.
