Correspondents without Borders Organization responded to the report sent to them by ANHA agency about targeting two of our correspondents, Gulistan Mohamed and Ibrahim Ahmed by the Turkish occupation army when they were covering the attacks of the Turkish occupation army in the city of Girê Spî. Correspondents without Borders Organization called on the Turkish authorities to not target the journalists during their military operations.
On 2 November, the Turkish army shot and wounded two journalists from Syria in north-east Syria on the border with Turkey according to Hawar news agency. Correspondents without Borders Organization calls on the Turkish authorities to not target the journalists during their military operations.
On 02 November, while covering the attacks of Turkish forces on North Syria on the Syrian city of Girê Spî (on the border with Turkey), two journalists from ANHA agency were wounded by a Turkish sniper. The health of the journalist Ibrahim Ahmed who was injured in the leg is stable, but the case of his comrade Gulistan Mohammed who was shot in the face was worrisome.
Correspondents of ANHA agency had told the Correspondents without Borders Organization that the Turkish forces were close enough to the journalists, a distance of few dozen meters. The Turkish forces are fully aware that these two individuals are journalists because of their proximity to the border and because the Turkish forces have very accurate cameras capable to know anyone even if they are a long distance away.

Sophie Anmuth, the director of the Middle East office said, “The fighters must respect the resolution 1738 on the protection of the journalists in the armed conflicts and not target them or hold them as hostages. The Turkish authorities must shoulder their responsibilities in this direction with their armed forces and the groups which are supported by them.”
On the other front in North Syria in the Turkish-occupied city of Afrin and with the start of its military intervention in Afrin area, Correspondents without Borders Organization said that the Turkish-backed mercenaries were guilty of several kidnapping operations this year. They kidnapped and detained at least four journalists, each of whom continued for a month on the pretext that there was no permit to take photos. They are still holding at least four other journalists (Radwan Khalil, Kaniwar Khalif, Hasan Khalif and Issam Abbas).
Syria remained the most dangerous country for the journalists in 2017, ranking 177 out of 180 countries according to Correspondents without Borders’ press freedom index of 2018.
